(Woodinville, WA) Wasn't it nice to have a few nice days this week. Even the dogs were happy and just wanted to relax in the nice weather. Of course they were in the shade and I was in the sun.
From left to right: Wazzu, Lindy, Quickie, and Boogie
We couldn't pass up such a nice day to let the dogs take a dip in the pool. Mike decided it was finally time for 2iggie to learn to swim. She wasn't thinking this was a good idea at all.
First Mike just showed her where the steps are in the pool.
Then he held her securely so she could see that she wasn't going to drown. I have taken many pictures of dogs swimming and have never seen one where a dog has one eye open and one eye shut. In fact, I've never seen that in the water or on land. Weird.
Getting the hang of it.
And again, showing her she can get out. I don't think she has connected stairs with getting out yet....but it's a start.
While the other four dogs were all in the pool house swimming, Wazzu wanted nothing to do with it. She just wanted to lie outside and watch.
For the first time this season, Boogie dove off from the side of the pool. I was a little slow with the shutter. Darn!
It's kind of hard to see in these pictures but every time Boogie gets the toy he does a beautiful swimmers turn. First he turns by pushing with his front leg.
Then he does a huge push with his hind leg. What a smart boy!
I find it so interesting to see how water moves.....
The weekend was the long awaited Earthdog Test. This was a great one as they had two full tests each day. We took the short ferry ride over to Whidbey Island. It was a deceivingly pretty day as it was very chilly. Boogie didn't even notice the weather.
For once Boogie got drawn for the second brace - we're usually last or second to last. So this was quite a treat. In the first test of the day, Boogie was paired with a westie named QT. The third person in the picture is the judge.
The hunt up was fun except the westie was much slower than our little Border Terrier. Boogie kept running out hunting and then would stop and come back to see what was up with his partner.
Boogie was to the dens long before his partner so he hunted around quite a bit waiting for QT to show up. Here Boogie is indicating to Mike that he has found the rats.
When Boogie's turn to work the rats was over he did a very nice Honor.
Next it was on to Senior. The team before Boogie took forever! So Mike and Boogie had to wait in the staging area an exorbitantly long time. I'm not sure which one became more impatient, Mike or Boogie.
Finally it was their turn. Here they are at the Start.
He was off like a shot to find the tunnel entrance which is well hidden....unless you have a great nose like the dogs.
We then had three hours before our next event - our second Master run. This time Boogie was paired with a dachshund. This one, while energetic, couldn't begin to keep up with Boogie. The black dot closest to the people is the dachshund. Boogie is the little brown dot way out front.
Boogie had a great time hunting....even though he was by himself most of the time.
Here he running up to check the den he found.
It turned out to be a false den so he went off to hunt mice while waiting for everyone to catch up.
More waiting...but too cute a picture not to include.
It's finally time for their last try at Senior for the day.
In he goes.
And what a good boy to come right out when his daddy calls him.
I overdid on Saturday so was unable to attend on Sunday. But Mike said Boogie had a great time. He had two really good partners, one Jack Russell and one really spunky dachshund.
Both days all four judges said Boogie was an amazing worker. Guess that's why when Boogie came out, Mike had to dig all the wood out from between Boogie's teeth! A good time was had by all. But why is it Boogie has so much energy and Mike is completely tuckered out? Too funny.
