(Woodinville, WA) Mike was out hiking with the dogs and running errands. I was home in bed as usual....when the phone rang.
I answered to hear, "Don't worry, I'm alive." As you might guess, I was both relieved and alarmed. What happened? Are the dogs okay too?
Not to worry as you read this. Mike and the dogs are all okay.
Mike was traveling on a two lane highway when a large dump truck going in the opposite direction threw a large rock right at the windshield. It hit right in front of Mike, throwing glass in his face.
Fortunately the rock didn't come through the windshield. And fortunately, Mike was able to keep the car in his lane so as not to have an accident.
You can actually stick your finger through the hole. (Hard to see in the picture.)
Needless to say, we need to get the windshield replaced quickly as the cracks are traveling up the window at a very quick pace. They can't get us in for four days...hope the window stays intact that long.
This brought back memories of an acquaintance of mine (a client at the time) who was traveling on I-405 when a truck lost a huge boulder out the back. The boulder, as large as the big garbage cans we are all supplied, went right through the windshield, killing her immediately. Those of you who have lived in this area for quite some time may remember this.
There is no way to completely guard against this type of incident. But it's sure a good reminder not to travel right behind these trucks that haul rocks and debris.
Be safe. Hug your mates and your dogs. And thank your lucky stars every time they return safely from an outing.
