(Newport, OR) This weekend we attended a trial in Newport, OR. This is the third year we've done this trial and it is definitely one of our favorite. The trial is nice but it has the huge added bonus of being right near the beach. I truly think that dogs and beaches were made for each other.
Slugger and I spent the majority of the weekend in the RV but I was able to be up just enough to run Wazzu. However, we had our problems. I could only do one quick walk of each course - which turned out not to be enough as I got totally lost on one run. So out of five runs we only got one Q. But Wazzu was running so nicely. The luck just wasn't with us today. Here's our day: Mike ran Wazzu in the first run and Wazzu knocked a bar. Wazzu did the super hard part of the Chances run then I looked away to see where I was going she looked too and knocked a bar. Darn! Got a Regular Q, got a bad contact call in T&G, and I got lost in the 2nd Regular run. But I was so happy to be able to be up long enough to do something with my sweet girl. A big thanks to Mike for warming Wazzu up before each run and cooling her down afterwards for me.
Sparkie had fun, fun, fun. Mike and Sparkie had an absolutely beautiful Jumpers run but missed the very last jump. Their 1st Regular run was beautiful and Sparkie came in a close 2nd. The 2nd run they had a little bobble but other than that it was a fantastic run. They then easily Q'd in Chances, Weavers, and Touch N Go.
After all the runs were done Mike took Slugger to the beach. He had a great time walking on the beach and chasing a few sticks into the water. His leg is coming along well enough that he could have a little "alone" time on the beach.
Then it was the girls turn. Mike and the dogs had a great time romping on the beach and chasing each other around. Just as they were ready to leave, a group of about 10-15 dogs from the trial showed up. Whoo Hoo. They were throwing balls with the chuck-it and all the dogs would go racing down the beach. Sparkie led the way - barking the entire time. She would always get the ball, and as a good dog would, she brought the ball right back every time. They played this game for an hour or so when the group kind of broke up and everyone decided to go home.
Just as Mike was getting back to the car they met up with Pat and her very cool dogs, Quinn, Will, and Tally. Oh goodie - another opportunity to play on the beach!! So off they went again. Sparkie was so happy. I mean, how does this sound for a day: Eat breakfast, play agility all day, get lots of treats, play on the beach for 2 1/2 hours, eat dinner. That has got to be the perfect day.
Sunday, Sparkie started out the day with a bang earning her NATCH-9! Way to go Mike and Sparkie. Sparkie enjoyed the fun victory lap but then of course really wanted her cheese - which of course she got along with a little extra. They ended up going 4/6 today and had some really great runs.
Wazzu was happy today but again not her speediest. And while our day looked a tiny bit better on paper than yesterday it certainly wasn't anything to talk about. But she did seem happy just to be doing "something" with me. Wazzu isn't a cuddler at all. But today while I was lying down ringside she laid right next to me and put her head over my arm. She tries so hard to take care of me!! What a sweetie.
The minute the trial was over we bolted out of there as we had to get to the Monaco Factory Service Center so that we could be there when they wanted to actually fix something on our rig!
It was a little windy all weekend so it seemed a little chilly but so many people got sun burnt - including Mike. I guess that's one advantage to staying in the RV almost the whole time!
