Boogie's First Owie

(Woodinville, WA) Darn, it’s our last day here. That meant we had to do all our last minute errands in this part of the country as we won’t be back for about nine months or so. Even though it was a bit hectic, Mike managed to get all his planned errands done along with a couple unplanned ones as well.

One of the unplanned errands was that poor Wazzu had to be taken to the vet to have a couple x-rays done. While not a really huge deal, it was still very stressful for her. I really hated that she had to go through that.

After all the errands, Mike had just enough time to take Slugger and Boogie for one last quick swim in the fabulous Mega-Dogs pool. Slugger of course is an old pro and certainly enjoyed his last swim session. And to our amazement, Mike didn’t even get in the pool with Boogie – he just placed Boogie in the water at the opposite end of the pool from the steps and Boogie very calmly and matter of factly swam the length of the pool right over to the steps. What a smart little puppy! He sure learns fast.

Steve and Karen had invited us for dinner since it would be our last night staying at their place. We can’t thank them enough for all they do for us. We are so fortunate and so grateful to have such wonderful friends. Their place is so much fun for the dogs and we absolutely love Karen and Steve – their hospitality is definitely second to none!

Just before dinner all seven dogs were out in the yard playing (as they’d all just finished helping Steve make dinner) and having a great time just running around and chasing various toys. Boogie was running full out chasing Pounce around the yard– his favorite new activity the past couple evenings. Suddenly Boogie stopped and held up his foot. Mike immediately knew something was wrong as Boogie is really tough and he doesn’t know the word stop.

Mike rushed over to him and found his paw covered with blood and dripping quite a lot. He rushed into the RV with Boogie and we did our best to try to slow the bleeding so we could see what happened. But this thing was really bleeding. Wouldn’t you know, one minute before dinner and we have an emergency. Now poor Steve has to try to keep dinner warm while we work on Boogie.

Fortunately Karen is really good with stuff like this and she got Boogie in the house, got the foot cleaned and wrapped well enough to hopefully get the bleeding stopped. We then put one of our little hiking boots over it to keep him from getting to the bandage. Poor little Boogie - he doesn't look like a very happy camper.

We had such a nice visit and the most wonderful dinner. Steve certainly gets our vote as the best chef in America...or even the world for that matter. Lindy, Quickie, and Pounce were good hosts as well. We're sure going to miss all of them very much.
