Surgery

(Olympia, WA) When we unwrapped Boogie's foot this morning it started bleeding again right away. It was obvious to us that he would need some sort of surgery on his foot. We called a number of nearby vets but none could get us in until this afternoon. As we were scheduled to leave here this morning, that didn't seem like it would work.

After calls to three vets in Olympia I finally found one that could get us in as soon as we could get there. So while Mike ran in to Seattle for one last errand, I got the RV all ready to go.

We made a mad dash to Olympia. The vet was so nice and saw us just as soon as we arrived. Sure enough he needed surgery. We then left our sweet little Boogie there for surgery.

To keep busy during his time, we drove down to Rochester and checked in to the RV park and got all set up. A few hours later we dropped the big dogs off in Olympia
so my parents could babysit them while we went to pick up Boogie.

Turns out he had completely torn the nail from the nail bed. So it had to be completely removed. They said it bled like crazy. When we got him back he had such a big bandage on his foot it looked like a little boxing glove.

He was really "out" due to the anesthesia. But they said this is extremely painful and it would be better for him to be out of it for as long as possible. He did wake up for about 30 seconds when we picked him up. He cried when he saw us and shivered badly....and then went right back to sleep.

They said this would be extremely painful and that he'd be a pretty unhappy guy for a week or even two since his was a pretty bad case.

We got him set up at home and he seemed to sleep comfortably (upside down of course!) the rest of the evening.

It's so sad he got hurt when all he was doing was playing just like he was supposed to in such a safe place. But fortunately he should be fine when all is said and done.
