Wazzu !!!

(Billings, MT) Montana sure is big! But it’s also very beautiful. Good thing as it takes so long to drive across it. Fortunately the roads are somewhat nice and there is some nice scenery to watch along the way…..if you like a lot of fields of nothing. So this is perfect for me as I love rolling hills of fields. Although I must say, I think the fields around the Pullman, WA area are so much prettier when the wheat is blowing in the wind.

We’ve just done a couple days of driving and once again Boogie is being the perfect little traveler. How lucky are we!

The first night we stopped at one of our very most favorite campgrounds in the U.S. We haven’t been here since 2004 when we had our previous RV – the Alpine which we really liked a lot - other than the fact it was always breaking! Anyway, the KOA in Billings, MT is perfect for us. It is kept up very well and they also have Deluxe Patio sites.

Mike really enjoyed sitting out on our beautiful patio reading a book.

It’s very peaceful here. In fact, Mike could read for a bit then glance up and watch the many deer that were grazing nearby. As you might guess, when the dogs were out on the patio the deer seemed to disappear!

Funny enough, when we arrived at the campground, one of our friends that is going to the Championships had just arrived as well. After we got all set up, I took Boogie down to the mighty Yellowstone River. It really has quite a strong current. Keeping Boogie on leash, I tried to get him to chase a stick in the water but as usual, nothing doing. But when he saw a water bottle floating down the river he actually swam to get the bottle. (Shame on people for littering!)

The scenery here isn't all that spectacular but still pretty in its own way. This is the view to the left as we fact the river.

We always walk the opposite direction as it is easier walking.

On the way back to the RV we met Linda with Robby and Fia. We let the dogs off leash so they play. Boogie and Fia went every which way and did very large laps around us. It was a great release for both of them after a long day of driving. Big thanks to Fia for playing with our little guy.

Before heading off for another long day of driving, we took all the dogs down to play at the river. It’s a very safe place so we let everyone off leash. They had a great time chasing each other...

eating sticks.....

swimming (way out in the current)....

and digging.

It was so peaceful. I spotted a deer coming down to the river to get a drink but waited until he was headed back up to take a picture so as not to alert the dogs.

And some birds flew just over our head.

While none of them wanted to leave (we didn’t really want to leave either) we had to get going. Slugger especially loves it here – in fact as soon as we pulled in and got out of the RV he started dragging us down to the river. We know he remembered it as you have to go a ways to get to the river. There is a really strong current in the river and he really enjoys it. He totally understands how the stick will flow in the current – it’s great physical and mental exercise for him. I’m sure the Championships will be a lot of fun but there really isn’t a fun and safe place like this for the dogs to play there so it’s going to be a boring week for Slugger.

We wanted to get to Gillette a day early so that we could get a close spot so I wouldn't have to walk so far all week. But this year they assigned spots. They assigned us the farthest away spot! And from what I was told when we made our reservation, we were the first to make a reservation for this year. Oh well, what's a person to do.

This evening, we got great news from our vet in Olympia. Wazzu's Valley Fever titer has gone down to 1:2 !!!! This is fantastic news and is quite a drop from a year ago. Wazzu is putting up a really good fight against this deadly disease. Way to go my sweet Wazzu - thanks for putting up such a good fight. Keep it up sweetie!
