Or, as most of us say, game day! Hey, today is game day in more ways than one!
We got up bright and early to head out for a day of agility. But when I opened up the cupboard to get out my cereal I found hundreds of ants. So we had to empty out the entire cupboard and spray all around in the cupboard and around the baseboard where there were also lots of ants. The ants got in some of the food so that of course had to be tossed. This put us a little behind schedule so we had to do some rushing!
This particular trial is being held in someone's backyard. There is a 30' x 60' covered area that was used for crating as well as a small area with a bunch of orange trees where a few people crated. The ring was a fenced grass area with a few trees around the perimeter.
This was just a one ring trial so of course there were no conflicts. Even so they had trouble finding workers. And they didn't need very many workers as there were no bars to set and they had automatic timers. It seemed as though the same five or six of us worked all day. Subway sandwiches, chips, cookies and drinks were brought in for workers and others could purchase the items as well.
Today was really hot - mid 80's. And it seemed even hotter as even though we were wet up in the covered area the sun was on us all day long. Both Slugger and Wazzu slowed down due to the heat but nothing slows Sparkie down!
In fact, Sparkie was the star today earning her Versatility NATCH-6! They let her take a victory lap which of course she thoroughly enjoyed. She got 1st place in all four runs she Q'd in. Today we saw one of the toughest Touch N Go courses we've ever come across. Only one dog Q'd - and it wasn't either of ours - it was an 8" dog. I think that's the only kind of dog that could have done this course successfully. But it was fun to watch everyone try!
Wazzu, while slower than Sparkie, also Q'd in 4/6. I was happy she did that well as she hasn't been feeling very good for the past week or so. And with the extreme heat and humidity today she was having trouble breathing and was doing a lot of coughing and gagging. But she didn't want to miss a turn.
Slugger had a smile as wide as the Grand Canyon. He was one hot puppy. And we couldn't get him wet to cool him down as we was petrified of the hose. Actually, poor Slugger got teased today. Sparkie was a little escape artist and kept opening the xpen and getting out. People would bring Sparkie over to us and ask us why Slugger didn't leave too since the door was open. When they heard he was too afraid to come out they all laughed at our big tough dog.
When we got back to the RV it was 98 degrees inside and still reeked of ant spray. It was hot enough that even I broke down and let Mike turn on the air conditioning for a little bit.
I sure hope we got all the ants this time!
