Oh, Bull

This morning was the dreaded 90 minute timeshare presentation – yuk! We were to be there at 9am. So we got up really early and went over to our favorite sandwich shop as they serve breakfast too. Mike and I had a delicious pancake breakfast together and one last look at the scenic view.

We could put it off no longer – time to go to the sales talk. We went to the front desk to check in and they didn’t have any paperwork on us at all. Can you believe it – if we wouldn’t have shown up no one would have known – they had never heard of us. Arg! But they took our information and got a salesman for us. The salesman we got was a little “off.” He took us back to the sales room where there were probably 30 sales tables but only about 1/3 of them had people at them.
He led us to a table and luckily it was right beside a wall so I could lie down and be out of the way completely. He told us to have a seat but of course I told him I would just lie down. Let me tell you this guy needs to take some lessons on being a little sensitive to people with disabilities. He was so rude. He couldn’t finish a sentence without looking over at me and laughing so hard that his face turned beet red. And he would make very rude comments to me constantly.

After about ten minutes he finally asked us what we thought about timeshares (before that time the only conversation was about how weird it was for him to be talking to someone on the floor). Mike told him that timeshares wouldn’t work for us at all as I can only sleep on my own bed. Each time we try a hotel I always end up sleeping on the floor as the beds aren’t right for me.

The very first words out of the guys mouth were “90 minutes! How am I going to spend 90 minutes with someone I have no chance of selling to.” Ha Ha – little did he know that’s exactly what we’d been thinking that last two days – how were we going to spend 90 minutes with someone trying to sell us something we have no interest in. I was laughing so hard inside!

He immediately got up to go talk to his supervisor. When he came back he said there is no use in talking to you two. But I am required to spend the minimum time with you so you have to stay another five minutes. So we stayed another five minutes with him while he just laughed and said rude things to me. After five minutes he said we could leave. Yippee – how cool is that! We got two nights free RV stay and $25 off our meal at their restaurant and only had to spend 15 minutes at the sales presentation!

Check out time wasn’t until 11am so now we had time for a short hike! All five of us were very happy with the outcome of our morning! I didn’t want to have to rush so much so I asked at the office if we could check out at noon instead and they said fine. Hooray, we’re off to go hiking!

The closest trail is the Fae Canyon trail. We thought there was another trail that started at that trailhead so we decided to go try that. But when we got there it didn’t really look like a real trail and didn’t look very interesting so we decided to do just the main portion of the trail we had done yesterday.

Here you can see the view of the canyon from the trailhead. The arch is on the right hand side of the picture (you can’t actually see the arch from here) and the steep climb we made is in the center of the picture where there is a small black square.

We saw this neat formation as we were starting on the hike.

We were going to be driving the rest of the day so we were really glad to get to do a little hike so that the dogs would feel as though they had at least gotten to do something. Since the hike was going to be short we let the girls off leash right away so they could get some running in. Wazzu preferred just to walk with me – but Sparkie was running every which way just like normal. You’d have thought she hadn’t had any exercise in a month. It seems like the more exercise she gets the more energy she has! Sounds like trouble to me.

Here is a picture from the trail of the arch. If you didn’t know it was an arch you would just think you are seeing a solid rock wall. That’s why the large majority of the people never have a clue as to what they are passing by.

We got to the end of the main trail to where the big climb is. It was time to turn around but I suggested that Mike climb up a ways with Sparkie to get her a little exercise. So they went up the rocks and I tried to get a few pictures to show how steep it was – but I’m not sure I succeeded. Sparkie had a great time nonetheless.

You can see that people need to use all their hands and feet to make it up this steep trail.

It seems to be a bit easier for Sparkie. Here she is going up.

And here she is coming down.

She went back up to see what was taking Mike so long. Then she and Mike enjoyed the scenery together.

As you can see, Sparkie just loves rock climbing as evidenced by her big smile.

Slugger however didn’t like this plan at all of just Sparkie getting to rock climb.. He cried and cried and whimpered – he wanted to climb rocks too. So Mike came back down and got little Slugger and took him part way up for a picture.

Slugger was so happy. He absolutely loves rock climbing – the look on his little face will stay with both Mike and I for a long long time.

We got back just in time to pack up really fast and take off for our trek to Carson City, NV. It’s kind of one of those places where “you can’t get there from here.” You can go the most direct route but it is on really skinny windy roads that aren’t meant for RV’s. The only other route is to go all the way over to I-5 in California. MUCH longer but an easier drive.

This evening we made it as far as Kingman, AZ. This is the perfect park for an overnight as the roads and spots are very wide and plenty long enough that we don’t have to unhook the car! We can just relax after a long drive……or so we thought.

Shortly after dark Slugger started barking. He wasn’t at the door so we didn’t think he wanted out. And the bark was a much different tone than his normal bark. Suddenly Wazzu got up and started air scenting on the drivers side of the RV. This all seemed very odd to us. So we looked out the window and about five feet from our window was a HUGE bull eating the tree that was next to us! Needless to say this got Slugger very excited and he started barking uncontrollably. I was trying to rush for the camera – but it couldn’t focus in the dark and wouldn’t take a picture.

Long story short – turns out the bull got loose from the property next door. He came over to the RV park and walked around eating and destroying various trees. He roamed around and kept coming back to our tree. So we were up until 1:00am watching the bull. So much for a good night’s sleep! But it was interesting and kept all of us entertained except Sparkie. She could care less about bulls. Never once did she even get up to look out the window. I guess since you can’t play with a bull, why waste your energy.

Although we couldn’t get a picture of the bull (that was only five feet from us!), Mike did go out in the morning and get a picture of what the bull did to the trees around the park. I think seven or eight trees looked like this.

It’s always something!
