Sedona Pines

When Mike and I were spending the afternoon together in Sedona a couple days ago, we stopped at a little museum of movies made in Sedona. The person in the “museum” was actually someone offering free gifts if you would go to their timeshare talk. They offered us a two night RV stay at their resort along with a couple menial things. We decided two more nights in Sedona would be great so we took them up on their offer. So this morning we moved to Sedona Pines Resort.

It turns out the Sedona Pines resort is a property with about 600 little houses. Really little. This used to be an RV park but property is really expensive in Sedona so the owners wanted to turn it into a resort with really nice houses. However, they couldn't get the permits so they had to build houses the size that would fit in each RV spot. So the houses are long and narrow - just the size of an RV. They kept about 15 spots for RV's. So that is where we are staying for two nights.

After settling in, we decided to take the dogs on a hike. Mike investigated all the trails and found one that was labeled as “easy.”

It did turn out to be easy and was very scenic. We really enjoyed the scenery – it was so pretty no matter which way you looked.

Here are a few of the views we saw.

It was so interesting to see the formations that were made over many thousands of years.

I'm sure this formation has a name but I was unable to figure out what it might be.

Most of the rocks are large formations with many rocks all around it. But this one was all by itself.

This is one of the many small caves we saw.

We just couldn't get over the beauty that we were seeing with all the various formations - each one a little different.

The only problem with this trail is that it was like a highway. For some reason this trail was extremely popular. It was packed with people the whole way. I was able to find one moment with no one around so I could get a picture of Mike and Wazzu on the path with the pretty scenery in the background.

Since it was so busy we kept the two younger dogs on leash but let Wazzu be off. It was so hot that she had no intention of going anywhere. She walked right side me the whole way.

In addition to the amazing red rocks we saw some beautiful flowers as well.

For the first time we saw a cactus in bloom.

I found a large rock wall that I though would be a good place for a picture. So Mike and the youngsters climbed the rock wall and I took their picture. This first picture is just to show you how high they had to climb on a very steep rock. Slugger really is in the picture but since he is the same color as the rocks he blends right in.

Here is a close-up where you can actually see them!

I decided this exact same location would be a good place for a picture of Wazzu and me too.

We had no problem getting up there but on the way down I slipped and fell. The camera took the worst of it and I only ended up with a scraped hand. Phew. Fortunately the camera doesn’t seemed to have suffered any ill effects from the fall.

We hiked close to three hours in the heat and we were all really tuckered. That turned out to be a good thing as we invited two good friends over for dinner. The dogs were really calm and slept most of the time our guests were here. We had a great time visiting and eating pizza. If any of you ever want to visit the Sedona area let me know and I’ll get you the information on the four rental houses my friend owns here. They are great houses and even allow pets!

It was a great day and a great evening. Great hiking, great weather, great scenery, great pizza and great friends. Just great!
