The Mad Dash

Well, today was arrival day with over two hundred dogs converging on Gillette for the NADAC Championships. RV's arriving by the dozens trying to get just the perfect spot. The RV parking is basically just a gravel parking lot with electric/water/sewer hookups. It is about 300 yards to the main building which is nice (much closer than last year) but the spots are really slanted. We were able to find one where we were able to get level using lots of boards. Seems like we know almost everyone in the RV lot.

At 2:00pm we were allowed in the building to set up our crating areas. As always, everyone was cramming around the doors waiting for them to open. Sharon came out just after two and reminded us that there is plenty of space for everyone and not to make a mad dash when the door opened. People were polite getting through the door but made a mad dash once getting inside. There really is plenty of room for everyone.

There were a bunch of tables set up in the back of the crating area that had all the exhibitor bags on them. Each table was a letter of the alphabet and the bags were self serve. MUCH easier to get your bag this year than in any year past. This year instead of leashes we each got a really nice NADAC bag. Each bag was filled with various treats, a treat bag, info on Gillette, a book on tape, a minituare candy bar, and a couple pens. It seems as though there was a lot fewer things in each bag than previous years but there was still plenty of stuff. And even so, we don't come for the stuff at all. We come for the thrill of competition and the comraderie of NADAC enthusiasts from around the country.

I haven't been on the arena floor yet so I don't know how the footing is but the arena as a whole - meaning the crating area, banquet area, spectator area, etc. - doesn't seem as nice as any of the previous years we've attended. But I will reserve further judgement on that until we've had a chance to experience it more tomorrow.

As usual there has been no word on what is happening tomorrow for sure. I did see something posted on the wall that showed Chances, Weavers, Tunnelers, and Jumpers so maybe that is what we'll be doing tomorrow. I didn't hear anything about when things would be starting in the morning but I'm going to assume we need to be ready to run at 7:00am as that is how the other Championships have gone.

Well guess I'd better get to bed as we have an early and long day ahead of us tomorrow as tomorrow evening is the banquet.

"Talk" to you tomorrow!!
Debbie
