Born to Run Free

(Bonita/Ramona, CA) Up at the crack of dawn again..well, Mike and I were anyway!

The first run of the day was Chances. It was a course we’d seen before but it was set much more spread out and the distance line was more than twice as far as last time. And it had Wazzu’s hardest challenge. Two jumps side by side (at about 15-20’ away) and she is to take the outer jump. Not a chance – she’ll always take the jump closest to me….which she did. But she did the whole course super fast. Other than that one jump, she was perfect.

Sparkie did the whole course perfectly too...except that she turned a little too sharp and just knocked a bar. What a shame as she really did it very nicely. Oh well, she had a great time.

The rest of the day was perfect for all three dogs! After that first run, Sparkie and Wazzu both went 4/4 and little Slugger went 3/3. Wow! Best of all, all three of them were fast. We just can’t believe the change in Slugger. He is looking like a competitive agility dog.

Sparkie especially loves it here. Right after every run Mike takes her out to the hills to chase rabbits. She comes back in with a huge smile and is panting to beat the band. Wazzu enjoys her outings as well but we take it more leisurely. We just meander up the dirt river.

Boogie didn’t get any great play time like yesterday but he did enjoy checking out the hundreds of mole/gopher holes. He found one that was particularly interesting. He was digging to beat the band...as you can see here by the flying dirt.

After a while I thought maybe he was going to go down and live with the gophers! As you can see there are many gopher hills around to choose from.

Boogie and I walked all the way up the dirt river where Boogie decided he'd like to be a rock climber. The reason for this picture is to show you the devistation over a very large area of hills.

We stayed around after the trial to help put everything away as everyone always scatters and Marj & Bruce (trial organizers) both had the flu. So it was really late by the time we got home. But I’d say our little family had a great weekend. The weather was perfect, the arena was great, the site was perfect, and all three dogs ended up with lots of Q’s. The perfect agility weekend!
