Leap is a Bust

(Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ) Good thing we had an extra day this year as I lost a day today. My legs didn't allow me to be up today. So much to my dismay, Boogie, Skatt'r and Mike headed off to the show without me. Pout, pout.

Mike returned Skatt'r to Billie then he and Boogie ran down to meet Alison for some more touch up on Boogie's coat. She's really good and did what she could - but there's only so much you can do with the mess he's in. We really appreciate all she's done for us with Boogie's coat.

Mike was really nice and kept me well informed via the cell phone of all the show happenings. Alison showed Boogie and he did well enough that he once again made it into the group showing for the points. But once again we didn't win. Our same friend that won yesterday won again today. She was really happy as this was their Championship - so they are all done with this silliness. She said they are never setting foot inside a show ring again. Too funny...as we too can't wait for that day to come...if it does!

Mike was such a brave soul today. He has never ever done one bit of rally. But since I couldn't go today, he decided to give it a try. After checking in and getting the map he called me and we went over all the signs and how to do them.

Mike practiced with Boogie (with treats) and Boogie was perfect. Mike was feeling really good as he entered the ring with Boogie. But the second they stepped foot in the ring, Boogie new there were no more treats. He just stared off into space and totally ignored Mike. Each of the first four stations they had to try over as Boogie didn't do them correctly. Boogie's brain didn't even acknowledge that Mike was in the ring with him. It was totally hopeless. So Mike picked Boogie up and they eagerly left the ring. Oh Boogie you are such a bad boy!

Mike says that at 9.5 months Boogie went from a sweet cute little puppy to a big giant brat. Hopefully he'll pass through this phase quickly.

The big dogs were happy to see Mike get home. And Boogie was really happy to see that Skatt'r got to come home as well. Boogie wasn't sure how to play with Skatt'r in the beginning but now he is being the perfect little playmate. They are having a great time playing together. I think Boogie is just really happy to finally be the "big" dog - even though he gets down and plays at puppy level!

Later in the afternoon Boogie was out in the yard, like usual, and walked over to the outdoor table. He started barking and barking and barking...nonstop! After a while Mike went over to see what was going on. He was barking at the rat cages that are used for earthdog practice. So Mike just reached in and picked up one at random to show Boogie that they are empty. But to Mike's surprise there was a mummified rat body in the cage. Now Boogie was really going crazy. We're thinking that Boogie might do really well at his first earthdog test!

The immediate problem is that Boogie won't stop barking at the cages on the table - even though Mike disposed of the dead rat. I'll tell you one thing - Boogie's lungs are in good shape!

Here's to hoping I have four more years before I have another leap day...as there was no leaping for me. Sigh.
