(Phoenix, Scottsdale/AZ) Border Terriers weren’t showing until 10:40am today and we didn’t need to get there early for any grooming as Alison has done all that can be done. So Mike had time to play with all the dogs before it was time to leave.
Boogie had a great playtime with Skatt’r. They are really best buds now. Boogie is just so happy that we got him a little puppy!
Wazzu on the other hand thought that one puppy was more than enough…two puppies is a million puppies too many. She'll be so relieved when she finds out that we aren't keeping this very cute puppy.
After Skatt’r was tired then Boogie had a huge playtime with Slugger. Mike said Boogie chased Slugger around at full speed for a long time. When Slugger got tired, Boogie had a huge playtime with Wazzu. He then wanted to play with Sparkie but she was a fuddy dud - as usual.
We're hoping all this playing should make Boogie a little calmer at the show today. I was feeling a little better today so thought that maybe I could go along if I stayed down most of the time. We only stayed about an hour and fortunately I was able to find a place that was out of the way to lie down about half the time.
Mike returned Skatt’r to Billie – which really disappointed Boogie. It was too funny. We then met up with Alison who brushed Boogie before heading into the ring. I watched from afar so as not to distract Boogie. Mike was near the entrance holding Alison’s dog while she was in the ring with Boogie.
Today Boogie showed VERY nicely. He was the perfect little boy in ring. Let me show you how this works. First they go in the ring and all the dogs circle all around together. Then one at a time the dogs are put on a table where they stand so pretty.....
....for the judge to examine them.
Then they walk down and back as the judge watches.
And then finally, they go around the ring as the judge watches (or sometimes not...which I always take as a bad sign).
As you can see, Boogie looked so proud, confident, and beautiful. The judge must have thought so too as he was picked best in his class. From what everyone says (and we do get a LOT of comments from people we don't know even), he really is a great looking dog...other than the hairdo. Yes, they always have to mention that!
Boogie is so good for Alison. It's very obvious she knows what she is doing! It was then time to go back in to try and win those elusive (for us) points. He is getting so confident in the ring...for Alison anyway. Doesn't he look beautiful!
Then all the dogs in the group go around together.
But once again, we had the same result in the class for the points…nothing. Darn! We just can’t find a judge that likes the Mohawk look. Ha ha. Well…I guess there’s always tomorrow. Even though we now know he won't win at this show, we are still very disappointed as we had been working toward this show for two months. It's so very disappointing. But Boogie is really becoming quite confidant in the show ring. What a good boy.
The positive thing out of all this is that Boogie showed extremely well today. He was nice and sure of himself on the table…and he trotted around the ring perfectly. Alison was super pleased with how well he showed today.
Even though we were entered, there was no way I could be up enough to do rally….especially with a dog that has no intention of minding. It’s really a shame as he can do it all so perfectly….when he wants to. He really is a very smart boy – too bad he doesn’t show people that side of him.
We’re all enjoying having little Skatt’r around. I’m sure you’ve all heard of the TV show “Eight is Enough.” Well Mike informed me today that there would be absolutely no need for me to try and talk him into another dog – Four is Enough. Darn! Too bad my legs had to give out now. I’ll bet if I could have been up and around to help out he would have thought that five was no problem. Well, I guess we’re stuck with just four….for the time being anyway! LOL.
After getting Skatt'r all tuckered out, Mike took the girls on a nice long walk. While they enjoyed their walk, the boys and I stayed home and rested our legs. Then it was time to play with Skatt'r again. Boogie has really become a perfect uncle (I have no idea if there is any real relation other than that they came from the same breeder).
Boogie gets down on the puppy's level to play and lets the puppy jump all over him.
He lets the puppy jump on him and he falls down pretending that the puppy knocked him down.
They must have played like this for a good 30 minutes.
They'd rest for a little bit and then it would start all over again.
As you can probably tell, Boogie is having a great time here! And you also notice that little Skatt'r is always on top. How sweet of little Boogie to help boost Skatt'r confidence!
